Bao-Xia Han (Lab Manager)

I come from Beijing, China. I have lived in the USA for over 20 years, and enjoy the life here. I joined the lab when Fan established it about 4 years ago. We have fun in the lab and enjoy ourselves. I am a great cook and specialize in cooking meat pancakes (added by HaiYan, Molly and Liberty).

General lab supports.

Liangli Wang (Research Associate)

Liberty Hodge (Graduate Student)

Xiang Zhou (Graduate Student)

I got my B.S degree at Peking University in 2004, and now pursuing Ph.D degree in the department of neurobiology. I joined the lab May 2005 after the third rotation. I am interested in neuroscience and now doing experiments on axonal branching vs. growth. I really enjoy the environment here and am happy to be a part of it. I will stay here probably for next five years and hopefully can find out something interesting.

Susana Da Silva (Graduate Student)

I am Susana Silva and I am from Portugal . I studied Biochemistry in Coimbra , Portugal . I arrived to Durham , US on April 2005 to join the lab. My scientific interests concern determination/regulation of neuron morphology. For now, I am working in two projects related to cellular and molecular mechanism underlying formation/retraction of branches of hippocampal neurons. I'll stay for the next three years.

Alexandra Sanchez (Graduate Student)

This is my first year of graduate school. I went to UC Davis for undergraduate and graduated in 2006. I was really excited about coming to Duke to do my graduate work, and I am glad that I came. This is my first rotation, and my first time working with mice. I am working on two projects for my rotation. The first is two color in situ hybridization, And the second is trying to make two vectors, that can someday be used to create transgenic mice.

Andrew Lyu (Undergraduate Student)

I joined the lab my freshman year here at Duke University. I'm currently a rising sophomore and am working with Liberty and Amanda on a project comparing the development of the trigeminal sensory system in various vertebrates.

I've spent the last 19 years in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA and have absolutely loved it. I have a wide variety of interests (outside of the biomedical sciences). I enjoy playing the violin (I play in the Duke Symphony Orchestra during the school year), cooking, learning foreign languages, and traveling. Here at Duke, I plan to major in Biology or Chemistry, with hopes of continuing on to med school.

Priyanka Amin (Undergraduate Student)

I came to the lab in the summer of 2007 with the Howard Hughes Summer Research Fellows program. I am helping Xiang investigate the role of PI3KC3 in both sensory neurons and all neurons. I am a biology major with a neuroscience concentration. On campus, I am active in various groups such as the sexual harassment and rape prevention group, tutoring Durham students, editing the Duke Mind, and Duke EMS.
